Presentation
March 6, 2008After a few days of almost sleepless night, I was called yesterday by the secretary of the school chancelor of the State University here and informed me that I will be given time to make a presentation regarding the Student Information System that I have proposed to their institution, on their council meeting today at 9 AM.
At first I thought, "Finally, they responded". However, I realized, I don’t have done any presentation! So I tried to contact my partner on this particular project, but I wasn’t able to talk with him until mid-afternoon.
"We need to make a presentation for tomorrow!" I told him.
"Isn’t this kind of a rush? They should have given us another day or two… But we don’t have a choice do we?", he replied. We agreed, that I return to his office /school later that evening to make the presentation. However, I wasn’t able to bring we needed to make the presentation. So we decided to go back to my cafe and work here. But, as we were about to leave, her mother called and asked him to come home early. Since we already planned out what we need to do, we decided to do it early this morning, but I have to do something on my end , he do something in his.
But when I got back to the cafe, (have you started counting the but’s and however’s already? heheh), some of our regular customers who are student’s nurses are having some problems with their scrubs forms and asked for my help. I can feel my stress level rising already. having been staying up late for several nights now and one completely sleepless night. I lost my mood to work on the presentation. So again I decided to have a bit of rest and wake up early and work on it in the morning.
I set my alarm to 5 AM. I did wake up 5 AM… However (again) I still feel sooo tired that I fell asleep again. And woke up around 6:30 already. I took a bath and started working on the computer. Finally I finished my presentation a short time after my partner arrived. I printed a copy of my presentation and made several copies of it, just in case.
When we got there, the meeting already started and we were asked to wait. While waiting, I decided to check my presentation and make some more adjustments. After waiting for about an hour or so, we were told that we can make our presentation now. However, (for the nth time), as we connect the laptop, to the projector… guess what? It won’t work, because the vga cable of the projector is deffective! So, to save some time, we destributed the hardcopies we brought, although they weren’t enough to give each council members a copy, although, the good thing is, some are already holding a copy of the proposal that I made, which contains much of the information in my presentation.
As I was introduced and taken the floor, all of a sudden I felt a bit nervous, I realized this is the first time that I have a sales presentation for 7 year! and I’m doing it alone, and facing a crowd which composed mostly of people who holds doctorate degrees on their chosen fields. And almost half of them were my high-school teachers. (hehe good thing I was a good boy back then hehe). A few moments I started my presentation , though, I felt calm and went through the presentation quickly.
After the presentation though, as the council members, ask their questions, some misunderstanding occured. I kind of enjoyed that portion though, as I observed them argue among each other. They were already discussing something about an accounting system which they dont have yet. For a moment I just stood there in front of them, but I decided to interrupt them since the time given to me was almost up and made it clear that the system that I was proposing was mainly focused on the student’s information.
